Learn to Row
Learn the fundamentals of rowing in a single scull - launching/landing, maneuvering, blade work, and balance!
For individuals 16+ new to rowing (or sweepers new to sculling) interested in learning a new sport on Hingham Harbor. Must be a proficient swimmer.
M-Th: Spring AM: 7:45-9:15am, Summer PM: 5:30-7:00pm
Are you looking to learn a new sport? Interested in getting out on the water this summer? We will teach you the fundamentals of rowing a single scull - the boat, the oars, how to maneuver safely and effectively, how to launch and land. Small classes with high coach-to-athlete ratio ensure a safe and positive rowing experience to prepare you for the next level, our Coastal Quads class or perhaps rowing your own single. On days when it's too rough for rowing, we will continue instruction on the rowing machines and on paddle boards to work on small craft maneuvering and enjoy the waves.
Please note: Ideal for new beginners and/or experienced sweep rowers wanting to learn sculling. All rowers must be proficient swimmers, watch the USRowing Safety video and be physically able to get in/out of boats without assistance (bend/reach over to side, step into center of boat, balance, deep knee bend, and sit) and to look behind/over their shoulder for steering while rowing. Wear water shoes (no sandals/bare feet).

Coastal Rowing
Work with a coach to improve your stroke, explore the beautiful harbor and get a workout with friends!
For intermediate to advanced rowers, and graduates of Adult Learn to Row course. Must be a proficient swimmer.
Are you an experienced rower? Come tour Hingham Harbor, get coaching tips for improving your technique and row with friends in our coastal Singles, Quads and/or the sweep Eight. Recent adult Learn to Row graduates are encouraged to try the Coastal Quad class to develop new-found skills and to practice/develop your stroke in one of our stable coastal boats helmed by an experienced coxswain. If you are a former collegiate rower and want to jump into the Eight or try out sculling in a stable single or a quad, HMC has a class and a boat for you!
