To enhance the lives of the residents of Hingham and the surrounding area by providing opportunities for all to enjoy access to sailing, rowing and maritime related educational opportunities. We do this by offering recreational and competitive sailing and rowing as well as educational programs for young and old, novice and expert, with excellent instruction, at an affordable cost, in a safe environment. HMC emphasizes developing and promoting life-long skills, healthy living, good sportsmanship and an enduring love of Hingham Harbor.
Hingham Maritime Center was originally the Lincoln Sailing Club, which was formed in 1970 and officially established in 1971 by a group of avid sailors who wanted to teach the youth of Hingham to sail. This group saw a need for affordable access to both the sport of sailing and the harbor and thus one of the Massachusett’s first community boating organizations was formed. Rowing was added in 2002 and has enjoyed great popularity. In 2005, we changed our name to Lincoln Maritime Center to reflect our expanded maritime mission and enhanced programming. Amongst other accolades, in 2007, Lincoln Maritime Center was awarded the Massachusetts Bay Sailing Association Leonard B. Fowle Yacht Club of the Year Award. In 2015, we changed our name to Hingham Maritime Center in honor of the community that has been our home since 1970.
A licensed non-profit organization, HMC offers scholarships based on financial need which are available to eligible sailors and rowers of all ages.
In all programs, Hingham Maritime Center is committed to it’s Core Values:
- Respect for the environment
- Respect for the community
