HMC’s 2017 Youth Sailing Registrations are now live!

Following from a wonderful 2016 sailing season, Hingham Maritime Center (HMC) is pleased to announce that registration is now open for their Youth Summer Sailing program, as of Wednesday, March 1st, 2017.  HMC’s youth sailing programs are available to children and youth age seven to eighteen and a variety of levels—from beginner to advanced/race—are available across all ages. Popular programs include the Beginner Sailing program (starting at age seven) where children are taught water safety and basic seamanship in addition to how to sail as well as the Beginner Venture Sailing program, which follows a similar format but is for middle school/high school aged youth who are new to sailing or water sports.

Highlights from the 2016 sailing season included a $12,000 award from Hingham Sports Partnership which was used to upgrade HMC’s aging fleet of Optimist sailboats. “Optis,” as they are affectionately known, are the small training and racing boats that most young children start sailing in. Generous donations from the community provided the other half of the needed funds and this new fleet gave HMC the scope to introduce a record number of children to this wonderful sport last year. The support and generosity of the Hingham community has been a mainstay of HMC’s operations since it first incorporated in 1971 and the 2016 season was no exception!

HMC also offers adult sailing programs and youth and adult rowing programs. The schedule for adult sailing, youth spring/summer rowing and adult spring rowing will be posted on March 15th, with registration for these popular programs set to open on March 30th.  HMC’s on-water rowing program will begin on May 1st, 2017 and it will run until the end of October, 2017.
