Dear Friends and Supporters of Hingham Maritime Center,

We would like to announce some wonderful news: last week, on December 15th 2016, Hingham Maritime Center and the Town of Hingham entered into a thirty year lease for Barnes Wharf. This lease provides HMC with a period of time to raise the required funds and construct a new boathouse and dock facility, and then thirty years to operate a maritime center.

The lease was the product of almost two years of hard work from the Board of Selectmen, the Town Administrator’s Office, Town Counsel, the School Department, the Harbormaster’s Office and our own board and staff. We would like to thank everyone who contributed to this process—both past and present—and we are very excited to move forward with our planned development of Barnes Wharf.

While these exciting capital improvements are a key part of sustaining our mission of providing community boating, we would also like to take this opportunity to ask you to make a contribution to HMC’s Annual Fund Campaign: Boating for All which will run until December 31st, 2016.  The day to day operations of the maritime center rely on the generosity of our supporters. As our programs continue to grow and as we prepare for the development process, the need is more urgent than ever. HMC is 501(c)(3) charity and program fees collected only account for approximately 80 % of the cost of running the center. If you can, please visit to make a much appreciated pledge to our annual fund (checks are also gratefully received at our mailing address: HMC, PO Box 492, Hingham, MA 02043).

Implementing the boathouse development project will require a tremendous team effort. We will need to draw on a lot of the energy, talent and generosity that exists within our community. If you would like to discuss making a direct pledge to the capital campaign or be involved in the fundraising or building process, please contact us at or at We hope to hear from you and wish each and every one of you a wonderful holiday season!

Fair winds and following seas,
