Our Classes

LEARN TO ROW

For beginners. No prerequisites, just an interest in learning a new, exciting sport and exploring Hingham Harbor from a rowing shell. Adults will learn the fundamentals of the rowing stroke, how the equipment works and what each piece is called, how to get in and out of the boat, and most importantly… how to put an oar in the water and go somewhere! Also covered are the basics of coxing a boat: commands, steering, and navigation. These classes are delivered in our 5-person stable coastal rowing boats. If weather conditions do not permit on-water practice, rowers will be coached on technique and increase fitness on land on rowing machines. Find your new passion, discover a lifelong sport, and experience Hingham Harbor!

Have a group of 4 or more friends and want to get on the water together? Sign up for your own Learn to Row class at a time that works for you! Email Sara Miller at rowing@hinghammaritime.org to discuss scheduling options.
