Dear Friends of HMC,
We are writing to share some great news and to ask you to show your support for HMC during a critical time in our organization’s history. Since March 2015, when Town Meeting authorized the Board of Selectmen to enter a lease with HMC for Barnes Wharf, we have been working hard to negotiate the terms. The town took its obligation to strike a fair bargain for the citizens very seriously and they drove a hard bargain on a variety of points. Overall, the goal of providing a long-term home for community boating in Hingham and better wharf-side amenities have been addressed in this document and we are excited to commence this undertaking.
The final product is a lease that the Selectmen have now put out for a short public comment period and that they plan on signing later this month. You can view the lease and it’s accompanying documentation on our website here or on the Town’s website (click here). The lease provides HMC with a period of time to raise funds and construct the new facility, and then thirty years to operate a maritime center.
HMC’s current lease expires on 12/31/16; the certainty of the 2017 season and the continuation of our mission rely on your support for this undertaking. Your voice in this process is important and we ask that you please take a moment to let the selectmen know that you support our work, their efforts and their intention to enter into the lease this month. The selectmen voting on this issue are Mary Power and Paul Gannon and any comments should be submitted to the Assistant Town Administrator, Tom Mayo, email@example.com no later than 4:30 PM on Monday, December 12, 2016.
If all goes well, in early February, we will host a social event and information session where we will outline the proposed schedule for fundraising, the construction and installation of a new float system, and the permitting and construction of the new Maritime Center.
Please also consider supporting HMC’s annual campaign by making a contribution to our ongoing operating costs. HMC has a long tradition of asking for— and receiving—help from our community and we thank you in advance for your time and support in this busy festive season.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Hingham Maritime Center,
Rick Pedone Rosamund Conroy
Board President Executive Director
